Gotye plans big Australian tour

Gotye, aka Wally de Backer, will perform his first show at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Saturday December 8.

Tickets go on sale June 27 from Ticketmaster.

They will be the first Gotye shows in Australia in over a year.

Gotye’s global hit Somebody That I Used to Know is closing in on 10 million sales and has just ended an eight-week stint at No.1 in the US.

It matches the Bee Gees’ run on top with Stayin’ Alive. The only Australian act to enjoy a longer period at No.1 in America was Olivia Newton-John,whose Physical topped the charts for 10 weeks over 1982 and 1983.

“It’s crazy,” de Backer said, “It’s also the longest-running No.1 in America since Eminem, and that was something like 10 years ago.”

Gotye’s album Making Mirrors is inching towards two million sales internationally.

The musician is exploring the possibility of selecting some of his favourite Australian acts to support him on the December dates, which include shows at the Sydney and Adelaide Entertainment Centres and Brisbane’s Riverstage.

Gotye’s Facebook fans will able to buy concert tickets from June 22.
