Phil Collins Says Music Ruined His Love Life

Posted August 30, 2010 By rockstix

The former Genesis star ‘ who has been married three times, to Andrea Bertorelli, Jill Taverman and Orianne Cevey ‘ admits he would have given up his career had he known his determination to be a success would “cost him so dearly”.

He said: “In the 70s, Genesis did three American tours a year, three European ones and a trip to Japan. My first wife, Andrea, told me if I toured like that, the marriage wouldn’t last. When I got back, she’d left me. If I’d known touring would cost me so dearly, I wouldn’t have done it.”

The 59-year-old star is now trying to live a quieter life, and spends his days in Switzerland so he can see his sons Nicholas and Matthew ‘ from his marriage to Orianne, which ended in 2007.

He said: “I’m happy being at home. I’ve said yes to things all my life. Now I’m learning to say no. I stay in Switzerland, as Orianne is there, and we share the care of the two boys.

“I’m not totally happy being on my own, though. I’d rather still be married and I think Orianne feels the same. She’s re-married, but we have a fantastic relationship.

“I get on well with all my ex-wives. They also get along with each other and my girlfriend. It’s a picture I never thought I’d see, but it works well.”

Phil is currently dating US newsreader Dana Tyler, but admits he is fearful of getting wed for a fourth time.

He explained in an interview with the Daily Mail newspaper: “Will we get married? I don’t think so. I have a commitment, but I don’t see the point. I don’t like being away from Switzerland and the boys for too long.”

Iron Maiden live show.

Iron Maiden

It was a big week for new music on the US album chart with debuts from six artists in the Top 10.

There were a few surprises. Soul singer KEM and singer songwriter Ray Lamontange did better than Iron Maiden. Country star Trace Atkins had another hit, David Gray was back in the chart and John Mellencamp still proved to have selling power.

Kem had the biggest selling debut at the week with ‘Intimacy’ charting at number 2 on sales of around 76,000.

Ray Lamontagne was at number 3 with ‘God Willin’ selling around 64,000.

Iron Maiden came in at 4 with 62,000 sales for ‘The Final Frontier’.

Also in the top 10 were Trace Adkins ‘Cowboy’s Back In Town’ at 5, David Gray ‘Foundling’ at 9 and John Mellencamp ‘No Better Than This’ at 10.

U2 concert in Moscow, campaigners detained

Posted August 27, 2010 By rockstix

RUSSIAN police detained Amnesty International activists and tore down their tents at U2′s first Moscow concert, where frontman Bono sang with an anti-Kremlin rock star, activists said.

Police not only forced out of Moscow’s Luzhniki stadium the activists who had been distributing leaflets and collecting signatures, but also volunteers of U2′s own charity fund, the ONE campaign against the spread of HIV, Greenpeace Russian director Ivan Blokov said of Wednesday’s concert.

The lead singer of the Irish rock band, Bono, had met with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Tuesday at his holiday villa near the Black Sea resort town of Sochi as part of his campaign to prevent the spread of HIV.

“Our activities were agreed with U2′s management so we are very much surprised,” Blokov told AFP.

“The tents of Amnesty International, Greenpeace and the ONE foundation were removed by police and we were not allowed to collect signatures and to talk to people,” he added.

Blokov said that the Russian Amnesty International activists had been detained despite volunteers from the organisation carrying out similar awareness work during U2′s concert tour across Europe.

Sergei Nikitin, head of Amnesty International’s Russian branch, told the Interfax news agency that five activists from the international rights watchdog activists were detained at the start of the concert late on Wednesday.

“I am very sad about what happened. I do not know if Bono knew about what happened to us, but I fear that he did not,” he said.

For the concert finale, U2 invited Russian rock star turned anti-Kremlin activist Yury Shevchuk onstage for a rendition of Knocking on Heaven’s Door before the crowd of 75,000 people.

Shevchuk on Sunday had appeared in front of about 2000 people for a banned concert in central Moscow to protest at plans to build a motorway through a forest, but he was forced by the security forces to sing without any amplification.
